Official: Russia’s Nord Stream-2 cannot count on EU help
BRUSSELS, Nov 24 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Nord Stream-2 pipeline running between Russia and Germany under the Baltic Sea cannot count on E.U. financial support, Vice President for Energy Union of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic told the European Parliament Tuesday.
“The E.U. will finance only infrastructural projects that correspond with the key principles of the energy union. Diversification of sources, suppliers and routes of energy receipt is key. This is why, (Nord Stream-2) will not become a project of joint interest in the E.U. and will not get financing from the E.U,” Sefcovic said.
The total capacity of Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 is expected at 55 billion cubic meters annually. Nord Stream’s first line was launched in November 2011 and the second one in October 2012.
